The company began as a small retail outlet focused on the import and sale of baby products, electronics, textile, cosmetics and general merchandise from the USA. Today, R. Bassoo and Sons Ltd. has added wholesale and retail, building and bridge construction, furniture manufacturing, residential real estate and food and beverage to its wide repertoire of services.
Its leadership collectively has 40 years of experience in diverse fields such as financial services, restaurant management, marketing, real estate management and civil engineering. R. Bassoo and Sons Ltd.’s daughter company Bassoo Construction is one of the leading construction companies in Guyana, specializing in residential, educational, health and industrial facilities.

R. Bassoo & Sons Ltd. also formed Bassoo Developers Inc., which acquired 46 acres of prime real estate for a housing development project, called Floral Park. Floral Park is conveniently located at Area “L” Plantation Houston, Georgetown. Once completed, Floral Park will have > 200 middle income homes and apartments for sale.
Outside of construction and real estate, Bassoo has continuously and successfully operated the Lotus Restaurant at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) for nearly two decades. In 1993, R. Bassoo & Sons Ltd. was granted permission to operate a coffee shop in the food court of the then Timehri International Airport, called Lotus Coffee Shop & Bar. In 1999, the company designed, built and began operation of The Lotus Restaurant. Located adjacent to the CJIA, The Lotus Restaurant conveniently provides Guyanese food and beverages in a relaxed environment for anyone who visits. We have a seating capacity of 150 including wheelchair accessible seating. In our commitment to the support and growth of local suppliers we acquire only locally sourced meats, including Hallal. The Lotus Restaurant has also provided inflight catering services for most of the airlines operating out of the CJIA, including Fly Jamaica Airways, Universal Airlines and Guyana Airways 2000.
Additionally, we have provided delayed flight food and beverage services for other airlines including Caribbean Airlines. Having serviced the needs of the CJIA community for many years we have developed a strong relationship with airport management and provide a prepaid food voucher exchange service for all airport staff. Overtime, we have acquired the necessary experience to deliver superlative, efficient and reliable food and beverage services at the CJIA. Bassoo has 30 permanent and 150 contract employee, human resource capital. We are always able to source reliable staff to provide excellent services and skilled labour.
